What is my Z: drive? How can I access the files that I save there from my personal computer at home or in the Residence Hall?
A. All Eastern students are provided with a 250 MB network folder to save personal data files (homework, personal web pages, etc.) on. This folder is known as the Z: drive. The name is derived from the drive letter assigned to the folder by the network which appears in My Computer whenever you logon to a University-owned computer on-campus. This automatic “drive mapping” of your Z: drive means that you can easily access your files and save new ones to your Z: drive whenever you work from a University-owned computer. You also can access your Z: drive from any computer in the world connected to the Internet. This access is provided by utilizing Eastern’s Virtual Private Network (VPN). You can logon to the VPN by clicking on the VPN link located on the MyECSU Student Portal page (http://www.easternct.edu/portal).
