What is my DirecTV DVRs USB port for?

The USB ports are there for Future use (Possibly). DirecTV has had USB ports on their DirecTV Tivo’s for at least 5 years now but they would never allow them to be activated. This is the same issue you are having now. The USB ports are for connecting a USB to Ethernet adapter into it so it can be connected to your homes wired/wireless network so you can access it from the networked PC’s and allow transfering of the shows/movies. Now here is the bad part, your DVR at this time cannot be set up to do this. a DirecTV Tivo can be EASILY modified to Enable the USB ports for this purpose though. If you decide you wanted a DirecTV Tivo you can still purchase them from a few companies like http://www.weaknees.com and then have them used with your DirecTv service. DirecTV still allows the D Tivos to work on their system. I have 5 DirecTV Tivos that have been modified so I can transfer any of my shows/movies over the network to a networked PC.
