What is Multimedia Computer-Based Training (CBT)?
One of the distinguishing characteristics of multimedia CBT is that it is delivered via computer. This could be via floppy disk, CD-ROM, a local area network, or the Internet. The Alaska Court Information Processing System (CIPS) training is being delivered initially via floppy disk, where users install the training software on their hard disks. All Shepard’s CBT products go out on CD-ROM, eliminating the need for lots of graphic and sound files to be copied to users’ computers. The Utah Court System clerk training is hosted on a local area network. This allows for instantaneous updating of content. Since sound abilities were not desired, the lower bandwidth (the amount of data that can be transferred) of the network is not a problem. Much recent discussion has focused on the use of the Internet as a training delivery method.
