What is mtv history and why it was made for?
MTV (Music TeleVision) was created in 1981, and originally it showed only music videos. That is why the music video became so lavish in the early 80’s (Duran Duran, Culture Club, Michael Jackson etc. etc.) In fact, it was MTV that really propelled Michael Jackson to become the world’s most famous entertainer, with the videos for Billie Jean and Thriller. Black music artists had never had such publicity and exposure, and never since has anyone reached the same level of success. During the 90’s, dance music became very popular, and the music videos became poorer as there wasn’t so much money for lavish videos, and MTV began to show comedies and car programmes, and lost most of it’s audience.
