A. The presence of mottling in the soil indicates poor aeration and impeded drainage. Mottling in a soil profile is determined by the presence of irregular spots of different colors in the excavation or boring. Mottling occurs with the seasonal saturation of the soil for a period of two or more weeks during the year.
