What is most flood effect in the Philippines?
The recent typhoons which hit the Philippines, Ondoy and Pepeng, spared no one. Everyone was affected directly or indirectly. People did not only lose their homes and other material belongings, many lost a loved one. In the province of Cagayan, there are barangays (villages) which were washed away. In Marikina, some subdivisions will forever be flood prone. In several towns in Central Luzon, it will take weeks and even months for the water to subside. Unfortunately, there are greedy individuals who never learned their lesson. Sad to say, they will take us down with them. Take the case of the illegal mining of black sand in Buguey, Cagayan. The unscrupulous illegal mining concessionaires and their protectors continued their illegal mining activities a week after Pepeng has left the country. The black sand is supposed to protect our coastal areas but it is being mined and exported out of the country to benefit the pockets of a few.
