What is more important – the quality or the size of the diamond? What about price?
A top quality diamond, chosen carefully by an experienced jeweller, will be visibly brighter and more dazzling than most diamonds offered at ‘retail’. A rule of thumb to help set your budget for diamonds and other stones — break your budget into two sections: 85% for the diamonds or gemstones, and the remaining 15% for a handcrafted ring. This can vary depending on the design and stones, but it is a good starting point. As an example of pricing, a quality 1ct engagement ring will generally cost between $10,000 and $15,000, depending on the different qualities of the diamonds. Price increases significantly as the diamond size increases, but so does the visual impact of that diamond (assuming it is of high quality). Note that a bigger, lower-quality diamond is not always a good idea!
