What Is Molecular Formula And Its Examples?
A Molecular formula is similar to a chemical formula. The only difference is that it is for molecular compounds. A molecular formula represents each constituent element in the compound by its chemical symbol. It also indicates the number of atoms that are present in each element’s particular molecule in the compound. The quantity of the atoms in a particular element is represented by using a subscript after the chemical symbol for that element. It is simply an expression of the structure of a chemical compound. For example. CH4 is the molecular formula for methane , O2 for molecular oxygen etc.
