You don’t unlock Mission Free mode. Mission Free Mode is where you wait until 5 PM (17 o’ clock) on day one before going to the warehouse, thus triggering the Queen cutscene, instead of the one with Jessie requesting Back-Up for Brad, thus never activating any cases. If you, however, want to play around in the mall, it is recommended that you do at least up to case 1-2 (A Strange old Man), though preferably until 1-4 (Rescue the Professor).
