What is mining and its effects on the environment?
Mining can be prevented when we all turn off all of our air conditioners, stop pumping gasoline, throw away all of our appliances that use electricity, turn off the street lamps, play all sports in the daylight, stop manufacturing about 50% of the products we manufacture today, throw away our cell phones, PDA’s, blackberrys, iPODs, video games, TV’s and the list goes on. That’s just for coal mining. To stop the other kinds of mining would require that we maintain or build no more highways, manufacture no more cars, stop building power lines, stop taking certain kinds of medicines, stop building buildings, schools, hospitals, make nothing that uses steel, aluminum, copper, tin, nickell, uranium, have no refrigeration, no hair dryers, curling irons, flower pots, eating utensils, computers, airplanes, mass transit systems, ships, trucks, books and that list goes on. It would pretty much mean cutting our firewood with stone axes, using animal hides to cover ours, and living in caves.
