The minimum wage in Texas is currently $7.25 which is the same minimum wage set by the federal government. There are only about a dozen states that also match the federal government’s minimum wage. I thought that the federal government’s minimum wage applied to all states and I wasn’t aware of this fact.

The current rate for minimum wage is 6.55 in Texas, but the good news is by 07/24/2009 minimum wage will increase to $7.25. In addition, the State law excludes from coverage any employment that is subject to the Federal Fair Labor Standards Act. Furthermore, Texas State minimum wage law does not contain current dollar minimums. Texas State adopts the Federal minimum wage rate by reference.
