What is Mediation?
Mediation is a dispute resolution process in which an impartial third party – the mediator – facilitates negotiations among the parties to help them reach a mutually acceptable settlement.The major distinction of mediation is that a mediator does not make a decision about the outcome of the case. The parties, with the assistance of their attorneys, work toward a solution with which they are comfortable.
A mediation is an informal dispute resolution process. An injured workers lawyer will be present at mediation. A mediation conference must take place within 90 days after the date the injured worker files a Petition for Benefits. The judge may grant a continuance if the requesting party can demonstrate that the continuance is required for reasons beyond the requesting parties control.
The agency’s mediation program enables a citizen complainant to attempt to resolve a dispute with an accused police officer in a face-to-face session with the assistance of a neutral mediator.
