For example, “We had a good / great time at the fair” would be an example of formal English but “We had a rootin-tootin time at the fair” or “We had crazy fun at the fair” would be examples of vernacular speech. If I were to say “Life would not be the same without our daily morning jolt of java” for a cup of coffee that would be in the vernacular.
