A A Narcissitic injury is a wound of a person’s true self (ego or soul). If a person looses or is rejected by their primary caregiver than the infant mind believes that they are being rejected because they are somehow flawed. This produces tremendous feelings of guilt and shame, as well at rage at the world. Some times a person will learn to survive a trauma by leaving behind the part of them that was most wounded by the trauma. This is known as disassociation. A false identity, or sense of self, will than emerge and work to prevent the world from seeing the wounded true self that is in need of healing. (This is not to suggest that people develop one or more “new identies” as is alleged in Disassociate Personality Disorder.
