What is meant by the term Levels of Care?
Oregon mandates that all state-licensed chemical dependency treatment facilities utilize Patient Placement Criteria developed by the American Society for Addiction Medicine (ASAM). There are a number of different levels of care designated by ASAM, but for outpatient treatment, the important ones are Level One (generally one to two visits per week to the treatment center, designed for individuals who are diagnosed as Substance Abusers), and Level Two (generally three or more visits per week, designed for individuals diagnosed as chemically dependent). The placement in level of care is done based on level of addiction severity.
