What is meant by the term “ESY” Services?
ESY stands for extended school year. These services are defined as special education and related services which are provided by the school districts to IDEA-eligible students beyond the regular instructional year as a necessary part of a free appropriate education (FAPE). The IDEA includes students who are three through 21 years of age. Typically, individual districts have specific ESY policies. School districts provide ESY special education and relates services (summer) programs to those children with disabilities who meet eligibility criteria.
