What is meant by the response time of a monitor?
The ISO standard response time of an LCD panel is determined by the time it takes a pixel to change from white to black and back to white. A monitor with a slower response time will leave trails when moving images are viewed. These trails are the result of pixels switching color slower than the movement of the image. This is called ghosting. Ghosting is typically not a problem when the monitor is used for static images such as Word processing, spreadsheets, etc. It however becomes an important issue when the monitor is used for video, video game playing, and/or TV viewing. Typical response times for current LCD monitors range from 16 to 25 ms.
