What is meant by the freeze-thaw cycle?
Cryotherapy ablation begins with a freeze cycle lasting approximately 10 minutes. This is followed by several minutes of thawing, whereby the cryoablation needle is warmed resulting in a thawing of the target tissue. Thawing is a prime factor in the destruction of cancer cells. The freeze-thaw cycle is then repeated as it is known to be an important factor in effective ablation treatment.
