What is meant by silkscreen monotype?
[Return to Top of Page] Silkscreen Monotype is, essentially, a layering process, whereby a series of monotype prints are made by drawing or painting directly onto the silkscreen mesh with water-soluble materials. The printing paper is then registered under the screen , and the image is pushed through onto the paper by squeegeeing a specially formulated binder over the screen, as in traditional screenprinting. As the image fades progressively with each pull, no two images are exactly the same, and up to 8 – 10 impressions can be made from a single drawn/painted screen. At this point, the screen can be washed out with water and dried, and further drawing/painting can be carried out, using one of the printed images as a ‘master’ drawing. Using precise registration and a sequence of over-printing, a succession of prints can be created, all of which are different and each of which possesses individual qualities. The process lends itself to an open-minded approach, and very creative and exci
