Reflexive modernisation implies coming to terms with the limits and contradictions of the modern order. The existing social order or structure becomes the object of its own forces. The concept of reflexive modernisation does not simply imply reflection, but a self-confrontation created by the dynamics of modernisation. This reflexivity is created by the circumstances of modern society in which the constantly renewing flow of information constituting society simultaneously revises that society’s modernity.
