What is meant by “paradise lost”?
The term “paradise lost” is used as a term for people who believe we once had paradise on earth, but because of our own error, was lost. It is known as “the transition of the first humans from a state of innocent obedience to God, to a state of guilty disobedience to God”. In the book of Genesis, Adam and Eve live at first with God in paradise, but are then deceived by the serpent to eat fruit from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, which had been forbidden to them by God. After doing so, they become ashamed of their nakedness, after which God expelled them from paradise as a consequence.
