what is meant by landscape my yard with natives and wildlife attracting plants ?
Many ornamental plants common to American yards are exotic species that local bugs haven’t evolved to munch on. In his book Bringing Nature Home, entomologist Doug Tallamy encourages gardeners to invite bugs, birds and other wildlife back by planting native species. Native plants aslo require less intensive or no irrigation as they are adapted to local seasonal droughts, thus conserving water resources. In the Puget Sound there are several native plant salvage programs that take plants from development sites and redistribute to restoratiion projects and the community at large.
