What is meant by hunting in synchronous motor and generator?
Based on the previous responses, I´ll try my hand at this question, too. There can only be hunting in a synchronous generator, BEFORE it is synchronized. Once it is synchronized, there can be no hunting. Indeed, before synchronization hunting can occur because the speed regulator of a steam turbine has a hard time to keep the speed constant, given the low amounts of steam it has to throttle. Diesel prime movers are easier to synchronize. Synchronous motors should not hunt, unless the excitation field is set very weak and thereby loses its synchronizing torque. .
