Food grade lubricants are oils and greases employed by the the food processing and packaging industry which may indirectly come into contact with food at very small amounts (10 ppm or 10 mg/kg maximum) due to spills, leaks aand faulty or poorly maintained equipment.Food grade lubricants comprise of specially selected raw materials that are non-toxic and will not affect the colour, odour or taste of food. These raw materials must comply with regulations enacted by US FDA (Food & Drug Administration) and they can be formally registered by NSF International in their H1 category. Food processing and packaging plants should only use food grade lubricants.
