What is Material Safety Data Sheet?
Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) contain printed material concerning safe use and potential hazards as prescribed by law. The United States Occupational Safety and Health Administration Hazard Communication 1910.1200 requires that manufacturers obtain or develop an MSDS for each chemical they produce or import. As a result, employers must have an MSDS binder in the workplace. Employees also need to know that there is an MSDS binder readily accessible. The overall mission of OSHA is to prevent work related injuries, illnesses, and deaths by issuing and enforcing standards for workplace safety and health. The MSDS contains information on a product used in the workplace. At the top of each sheet, manufacturer contact data and product information is listed. Next, the chemical components of each product are listed, along with their Chemical Abstracts Service Registry Numbers (CAS).
