What is Marine Corps Basic Training?
Marine Corps basic training is a 12-week program focused on turning civilians into Marines. These 12 weeks are mentally and physically challenging for the recruits. Lengthy hikes, being away from family and friends, living with strangers, following orders, eating meals quickly, fatigue, and constant stress all take a toll on the recruits. Anyone who is going to Marine Corps basic training must take the time to prepare for it, or risk an increased chance of failure. Physical Preparedness Being physically ready for the challenges of Marine Corps basic training is a very lengthy process. Marines are expected to be able to march 10 miles through rugged terrain. They must also be able to run 3 miles in less than 28 minutes. Sit-ups and pull-ups are also a major part of the Marine Corps physical readiness test (PRT).
