What is MARC 21 and should I change my specs for vendors providing MARC records?
It is not necessary to change specs for providers of MARC records. MARC is not a static set of standards. They change. The latest change resulted in USMARC and CAN/MARC being identical. As a result, the new publication of the standards as revised is being called MARC 21 and it replaces the previous USMARC and CAN/MARC publications. You can find out more about MARC21 under General Information at http://lcweb.loc.gov/marc.
