What is Maple Syrup made from????
Everyone is right, the last fellow be fore me is bit confused, it is boiled not done quite the way he describes. It is made in the spring when the temps warm and the maple trees are coming out of there dormant winter slumber, when the days are 10+ Cecilius or 40 degrees F in the day and just at or slightly below freezing 0 C or 32 F the sap flows, the tap the trees by drilling a small hole in the bark and 2 inches into the trunk (this doe not harm or hurt the tree) the sap flows either into bucket or into line that fill a central reservoir, it is them boiled down into syrup, and it take 40 gallons of sap to make 1 gallon of syrup. The one young lady was correct, garden variety syrups like Mrs Butterworths in the US or Table Syrup is a sugar based product and has no or little maple syrup in it mostly a flavouring, here in Canada, in Toronto were I live we have a type that is the run of the mill style but 35% real mixed in.
