What is mandatory continuing education (MCE)?

0

MCE is education required by a given US state to retain licensure. State and province requirements vary. Twenty states now have implemented a MCE license requirement. This means architects who intend to practice within those states or provinces must have continuing education either annually or biannually. Each state has the legal right to establish its own guidelines and requirements. The average AIA member has four or more state licenses. Most states have similar requirements and as of June 2001 indicate that they will accept AIA/CES transcripts as documentation for completion of valid continuing education credit. For AIA members, this means our single record-keeping system is the documentation needed for reporting your state(s) MCE requirements. We do strongly suggest that you keep back-up documentation of your activities as support, especially if the credit is a self-reported activity. The AIA or the licensing boards may require you to show support back-up documentation.
