What is man made disaster please explain?
A man-made disaster was the flooding of Orleans and Jefferson parishes from the storm surge from Katrina. Faulty engineering is why the east flood wall of the 17th street canal breached. There was lack of knowledge of basic hydrodynamics by the engineers and the ACOE ( Army Corp of Engineers. I’m still tempted to call them the Corpse.) I knew the 17th street canal would breach in December 1993 because of the line of sheet piling 40 to 50 feet west of the Orleans flood wall. The Jefferson flood wall almost breached as well, but it didn’t have a line of sheet piling that caused the velocity and pressure of the water to increase as much as on the east side. Note that flooding occurred the day AFTER Katrina made landfall. I’m a New Orleans native that stared at the 17th street canal every time I crossed it for many years as both a passenger and a driver. I don’t recommend staring at anything while driving I apologize for the lack of images in the source, even though I properly credited my
