What is Maintenance in Lieu of Rent (MLR)?
Reimbursement is available for the cost of constructing and operating public buildings when such costs can be identified as the expense of maintaining the space suitable for continuous occupancy. Reimbursable MLR costs include the following: direct costs such as cleaning, fuel, light, power, water; indirect costs including depreciation and interest costs incurred to finance capital expenditures for office space.
