What is “looping” in math classes?

If a student fails an algebra course (Pre-Algebra, Sophomore Algebra, AlgebraI/Extended or Algebra II) first semester, that student is required to take that first semester over during the second semester. One additional semester of summer school is then required to complete the course. Students who fail the second semester of an algebra course would also be required to take summer school along with the students who looped first semester. Looping is designed to get a student the skills he/she needs to move forward with the curriculum.
