What is Livingston County Health Department doing to help prevent family violence?
The health department, along with the Livingston County Coalition Against Violence, has been working hard to address the high incidence of family violence. Together, they have been focused on and successful in raising public awareness through various educational and media campaigns. Each year, they host a “Luminary Ceremony”. At this ceremony, health department staff, coalition members, children and adults of all ages gather to light candles for each reported victim of violence in Livingston County. What can I do to help prevent family violence? The first step is to pay attention to the children and adults round you and be aware of warning signs that could signal that someone is being abused. If you suspect a child or an adult is being abused, contact your local police department and report it.
