What is liquid propane gas (LPG)?
Propane is called a fossil fuel because, like natural gas, it is composed of the remains of plants and animals that inhabited the Earth millions of years ago. Propane is gaseous at normal temperatures and under moderate pressure, it becomes a liquid that vaporizes into a clean-burning gas when released from its storage container. Propane is 270 times more compact as a liquid than a gas, making it economical to store and transport as a liquid. It’s a by-product of natural gas processing and petroleum refining. Like natural gas, it burns cleaner than gasoline or diesel. For more information on alternative fuels, visit our Alternative Fuels Links page.
