The Town of Hinton (pop 10,000) is situated at the “Gateway to the Rocky Mountains”, along the Athabasca River, 29 km from the East gate of Jasper National Park and 287 km west of Edmonton. The Town is surrounded by forest, including a Forestry management area, a Model Forest, and several recreation and wilderness operations (campgrounds, lakes, etc). Currently Hinton is in the midst of a major economic boom. Activity in the resource sector is at unprecedented levels. The major economic drivers of the Hinton area are coal, oil, gas, timber, sand and gravel, and tourism. The Town is also home to a highly skilled work force.
