What is life like in Syria?
It depends on where you are in Syria. The cities tend to be more exciting than the villages, and are quite literally crammed with cafes, restaurants, and internet cafes. In Damascus and Aleppo (the two largest cities) there are some large theaters that usually show foreign/English films, and most houses have satellites allowing the TV to get channels with all-English (as in the language, not the country) shows and movies. Syria is also a history-enthusiast’s fantasy-come-true, with ruins from nearly every major civilization on earth (Damascus itself is the oldest continuously inhabited city on earth). However, I should point out that having fun in Syria totally depends on your attitude towards it. If you go expecting to have a good time, I assure you, you’ll find it. If you go expecting to be bored and miserable, then that’s what you’ll be.
