What is life like for folks with SPMI?
Many of our members who struggle with SPMI report that the most difficult part of having a mental illness is not dealing with the symptoms it is dealing with discrimination and stigma, and with the poverty that comes from living on a fixed income. Many of our members are not welcome to sit in a local caf and nurse a cup of coffee, particularly if they appear a little weird. And a limited income really means that many of our members cannot participate in activities that many of us take for granted: shopping at the good grocery stores or Wal-Mart; going to the beach, to a yard sale, fishing or to a county fair.
