What is “Legato” Guitar?

“Legato” is guitar terminology for something that is “smooth and flowing, without breaks between notes.” This effect is achieved on the guitar using hammer-ons, pull-offs, and slides (sometimes finger tapping). You aren’t relying on your pick hand to activate any notes, you just press into them on the fretboard! Understanding guitar tabs is just as important. Legato guitar techniques are represented in both tabs and standard notation as a curved line connecting two or more notes. On occasion, you may see an extra H.O., P.O., S, or T above the tabs. These represent hammer on, pull off, slide, and tapping respectively.
