What is kosher?
Kosher is food which is fit for people to eat. Kosher foods are available in markets in the form of packets. Kosher is available at kosher supermarkets. It is also available at http://watsonsale.com/
The word kosher is a variation of the Hebrew word meaning “fit” or “proper.” Simply put, kosher foods meet the dietary requirements and are prepared in accordance to the Jewish Law. The determination of kosher and non-kosher foods depends on two variables: the source of the ingredients and the status of the production equipment. Kosher certification, which is the guarantee that the food meets kosher requirements, revolves around both of the above criteria. Kosher fish must have both scales and fins. Shellfish such as shrimp and lobster are prohibited, as well as some fresh fish such as swordfish, sturgeon, catfish and eel.
Kosher is a Jewish term meaning “fit to eat” or “ritually pure.” It is used to describe food that has been produced according to certain standards, approved to be eaten by people of the Jewish faith. Packaged food products that are certified kosher may bear the symbol OUD, U or K with a circle around it. All of our products are certified Kosher and carry the symbol OUD on the package. OUD means that our products are certified by the Orthodox Union, and they include dairy (butter). It is very important to include the D because this means when and with what other foods our products can be eaten with. In the Jewish faith, meat cannot be eaten with dairy. People of the Jewish faith must wait 8 hours between eating meat and dairy products.
Kosher refers to the preparation and eating of food in accordance with Jewish dietary laws found in the Old Testament. These laws of Kashrus place restrictions on what food may and may not be eaten as well as which foods can and cannot be eaten together with other foods. For example, meat cannot be prepared or eaten with any dairy products. The entire food preparation process, from the slaughtering of an animal to the use of pots and pans, dishes and utensils, is covered in detail in these laws and must be followed under the strict supervision of a rabbi.
