What is Kitesurfing?
Similar to windsurfing, kitesurfing (also known as kiteboarding) involves the surfer strapping in to a double ended board and attaching a large parachute-like kite. A surfer can use oncoming waves to harness the wind’s energy and glide over the water. When she wishes to turn, she simply points her board and kite in the direction she’d like to go. Kite surfing is a fairly dangerous sport that requires learning a variety of techniques to execute safely. There are several kitesurfing schools in San Diego. A beginner also needs plenty of practice in both kite and board techniques (especially if he doesn’t have prior experience with water sports). Buying a training kite is worthwhile and much safer alternative while a beginner is still learning to control his kite.
