What Is Khyber Pass?
The most important connection between Afghanistan and Pakistan is through a mountain pass called Khyber Pass. It not only connects Afghanistan and Pakistan but also it was a route to connect Central Asia and South Asia. Traders used to bring silk and luxurious stuff from China to the Middle East. In history, it was a very important trade route and is a strategic military location. It is 53 kilometres long and is a passage through the renounced Hindu Kush mountain range. Invasion to South Asia were carried through this pass in History. Persians invaded and enlarged their Empire to Indus. In this way Islam was first brought in India. It is recorded in history that invasion through Khyber Pass began with the conquests of Alexander, The Great. In 1526, Mughul Empire was established and the Muslim invasions were also carried out through Khyber Pass. Also in nineteenth and twentieth century, British Army invaded Afghanistan through Khyber Pass and three wars were held between them in 1839-42
