What is kate voegeles song “hallelujah” about ?
Okay this is how I interpret this song. The lyrics are the same as previous versions btw. The first verse is talking about how the singer heard this beautiful piece of music so holy ‘it pleased the Lord’, and they want to tell their lover about it. But then they remember they don’t really like music. I think the ‘chord’ is basically a summary of their relationsip. The use of the word Hallelujah, is rather ironic as Hallelujah is joyful as is seen in Handel’s Hallelujah Chorus, full of praise and happiness. It’s like the composer has nothing left worth living for and Hallelujah is the happiest word they can remember. The second verse is basically the composer remembering how he/she was with them, how their ‘faith was strong but you needed proof’. The next part of this verse is saying how this person who the lover saw on the roof, stripped them of everything they had, ‘and from your lips she drew the Hallelujah’ could be interpreted as drawing the last ounce of happiness from them.
