What is JUPEMs contribution to the Asia Pacific region?
We have a Malaysian standard, namely MS1759:2004 Geographic Information/Geomatics- Feature and Attribute Codes. Everybody must comply with this standard. JUPEM is also a permanent committee member of GIS Infrastructure for Asia and the Pacific Region (PCGIAP). We are sharing and exchanging experiences with all the member countries on geospatial data infrastructure initiative. Besides that, JUPEM is contributing for the development of an international standard for geographic information and geomatics under ISO/TC211. JUPEM is the prime driver of geospatial data in Malaysia. What are its initiatives to create more awareness so that the uptake of geospatial technologies increases in the country? JUPEM organises awareness seminars and conferences with the support of Land Surveyors Board (LJT) of Peninsular Malaysia where currently I am the chairman of the board. LJT also provides subsidy for all licensed surveyors to attend conferences and Continuous Professional Development (CPD) programm
