What is Julie’s Story?
Julie Showalter was the fiercely intelligent, extraordinarily sexy, and loving woman with whom I had a outrageously wonderful 20 year marriage that ended with her death in late 1999 from cancer diagnosed the week of our wedding nearly 20 years earlier. She was also a brilliant scholar, the mother of our two sons, and a prize-winning author. How our relationship came to be and then evolved was, like Julie, complicated, intriguing, and romantic – and unlikely. When I started writing this blog, I thought that presenting that story via occasional postings might interest some friends and family who knew part but not all of the story. It turned out to be of general interest, which accounts for this FAQ.
