Joint fluid therapy is used for the treatment of pain in patients with osteoarthritis of the knee. Joint fluid therapy involves injecting a substance called hyaluronan into the knee. This substance is similar to the fluid that occurs naturally in the knee – synovial fluid – which helps to lubricate the knee, reducing friction and relieving pain.
