What is Jihad and why is the word so misused and misunderstood by the western media?
DEB: Jihad is basically battling against your own conscious, abstaining from doing what is wrong, first against your own self and then against others, in the form of, maybe, writing against it, or even war. But Jihad does not only mean war, there is a lot more to the word than just that. For misconception of the word in the western media, I would say partly the Muslims themselves are responsible. They should explain the true meaning of the word to others. The western media emphasized on the word war and distorted it. The fact of the matter is that Islam says, when there is a war, do not harm the vegetation, women, children, old and helpless people. Only those who are fighting should be fought against, not the others. Even for them, you are not allowed to cut an arm or leg or any body part for that matter.
