What is Japanese Beef on a Chinese Menu?
Japanese Chinese cuisine is a unique style of Chinese cuisine served by Chinese restaurants in Japan. In Japan, many of these restaurants are Japanese-owned, though there are some which are operated by overseas Chinese or Japanese of Chinese descent. Though formerly Chinese cuisine would have been primarily available in Chinatowns such as those in port cities of Kobe, Nagasaki, or Yokohama, Japanese-style Chinese cuisine is now commonly available all over Japan. This cooking style is also famous in the US, appearing on Chinese menus. It is a combination of both Chinese and Japanese cooking elements and styles: Chin-jao Ro-su (青椒牛肉) is a Japanese Chinese cuisine. It consists of a stir-fry dish of thinly sliced beef strips with Japanese green peppers and often bean sprouts in a light sauce.
