IVF stands for Invitro fertilization. ICSI stands for Intracytoplasmic sperm injection. You might be wondering what these terms mean and how they relate to infertility treatment. IVF or Invitro fertilization is the process of taking eggs from the womans ovaries and fertilizing them with the males sperm in a lab under a microscope. The eggs are then placed back into the womans uterus. If the fertilized eggs implant successfully the woman will be pregnant. IVF helps couples that have a male factor such as low sperm count or abnormal shaped sperm. The sperm is washed before it is fertilized with the egg. This helps to ensure no harmful chemicals are present on the sperm. If the woman has a problem ovulating he is treated with fertility drugs.
