What is it with Glenn Beck and these weird weekend specials on FOX news?
He is either mad or cynically manipulative, using an emotional, ‘weepy evangelical” style to get more viewers. It is especially effective with those angry, fearful viewers who feel cut off of the changes in the world and voiceless. Instead of dealing with their real problems, however, Fox’s gives them an imaginary Big Brother _O’Reilly, Hannity and Beck- guys who brand anybody who doesn’t follow their narrow ideas as “far left.” They love to play the tough guy for their viewers: Instead of calm, thoughtful discussions they give us ready-made anger, smears and ‘did Obama beat his wife?” leading questions, all the while repeating to the viewers how special they (the viewers) are and how much they represent the real, the true American. Beck is taking it one step further, with his cult-like ‘war room’ and ‘I believe’ pledges ( a hold over from his days in AA). Thankfully, most people, even conservatives, are repelled by him.
