What is it that many modern artists are trying to express?

Much of modern art is increasingly more abstract and bizarre. The movement from Impressionists to Dada to more modern art movements has lead to the separation from the conventional “art” expression that you may find appealing (Romanticism, Renaissance art, etc) to something not quite concrete in interpretation (Dali, Bacon, etc). As for drinking and mingling, it’s part of the art social scene; many find that alcohol and art mix quite well and enhances conversation with fellow art lovers. Art exhibitions usually want their guests to remain happy and drinks (not necessarily alcoholic) do exactly that. The guests may seem “bored” as they have not found the piece that speaks to them.
